Volume Number 1, Issue Number 2, September 2001
"Man is the only animal that blushes ... or needs to." Mark Twain

"Dawn", Alphonse Maria Mucha, 1899.

My deepest sympathy to our American friends and colleagues whose country and way of life have been subjected to an inhuman barbarity in recent days. The strength, courage and dignity you and your great Democracy have shown in the face of this gutless bastardry do you great honour.

The attack on you was an attack on all of us, not symbolically but in cold reality. Many ordinary people from a great many nations are also victims of this atrocity. We can only hope that the awful, inevitable retribution that awaits the criminals and those who support them will lead to a safer world for your children, and ours, and theirs.  Al Heywood

  RED CROSS DONATIONS

Welcome to the second issue of eNAMEL, a free online newsletter for those interested in vitreous enamel - glass on metal - and the pursuit of excellence.

My thanks to the many people who have offered encouragement, and to those who have shown support by adding their names to the mailing list. The response to the first issue of eNAMEL has been pleasing; it's also been enlightening, since I monitor usage of the newsletter and "Allan Heywood Enamels" closely.

For the statistically-minded, as of today around 90% of all subscribers to the newsletter are from the continental United States and the USA accounts for around 56% of the visitors each site receives. Around 36% of all page views are served to Australians and yet the number of Australian subscribers can be counted on the fingers of a one-armed man (or woman, to be evenhanded about it) and are mostly family.

Around 45% of visitors return at least twice to the site, 20% return at least 10 times, 13% return more than 20 times, and new subscriptions are running around one a day.
