Hugo Rodolfo Ostermann, enameller, uses a mixture of techniques in his works - a variety of materials & found objects, exotic woods, a diversity of metals.

He is attracted to indigenous art & its influence can be seen in the style of recent pieces which demonstrate also a constant search for a new perspective.

Adone Pozzobon hand engraver, in the words of another master, Steve Lindsay, friend and colleague: "I believe Adone to be one of the finest engravers living today. His bulino dot work shows he is amongst the best engravers in the world.

He doesn't require inks, dyes or paints in his work - all he needs are dots and light to create his images."

Valentin Yotkov silversmith: "My native Bulgaria was the homeland of the legendary Thracian gold and silversmiths, who created timeless masterpieces some 2500 years ago.

Their exquisite works had a great influence on my personal style, and became an inspiration for life."

About 15 years ago in Melbourne I first met Carolyn Delzoppo, Australia's best-known cloisonné enameller. I had led an essentially solitary enamelling existence until then and we had a terrific "show and tell" session. Carolyn's work is marvellous - precise, elegant, beautifully made - and after a good look at each other's stuff she showed me an amazing magazine. It was my first look at Glass on Metal® and I was bowled over by the quality, presentation and content of the thing. A blast of inspirational oxygen in a desert of ignorance, secrecy, ego and preciousness!

Every enameller should be thankful for Glass on Metal®. The technical articles alone justify its existence, let alone the showcasing of wonderful craftspeople from around the world. I thank Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Helwig and the Thompson Enamel Company for putting together G.O.M.® and look forward with relish to their offerings over the next 20 years!    Allan Heywood

To come: John Paul Miller - artist, teacher, goldsmith, enameller, master of granulation.

eNAMEL has been fortunate enough to obtain permission from Mr. Miller to display a comprehensive collection of images of his enamelled gold granulated pieces. To allow the highest possible image quality there will be little (if anything) else in the May issue but hey, what more could one possibly want? The few pictures of Mr. Miller's magnificent golden creatures that I had previously seen published have been a source of wonder and inspiration to me for 20 years. It's a real privilege to be able to present many more of them online.

Any eNAMELsubscriber can now have up to three pieces of their original work in any medium or mix of media displayed in the Online Gallery. Email the pictures to me in JPG form; they should be at least of the quality featured throughout the Newsletter. The service is free.
