"As the original American granulation artist, he has inspired a generation of goldsmiths who work in granulation." - Alan Revere in Professional Jeweler, March 1998 John Paul Miller, the father of modern Western granulation celebrates his 84th birthday tomorrow, April 23rd 2002. Mr. Miller was born in 1918 in Huntington, Pennsylvania. I'm sure I speak for many, many others when I wish him a very happy birthday, and many more of them! Mr. Miller has entrusted eNAMEL with the task of displaying on the Internet a comprehensive selection of images of his enamelled gold granulated animals. The few pictures of these magnificent creatures we had previously seen published have been a source of wonder and inspiration to us for 20 years. It's a privilege to be able to present this selection online. The images are as large and detailed as we could reasonably make them, so downloading might take some time. It'll be well worth it though for those patient enough to persevere. It's most unlikely that such an historically-unique and conceptually-original body of work - work of the elegant beauty and intricate complexity of these masterpieces, produced consistently and over such a long period of time by a single individual - will ever be matched. In this Issue: V1 #6 May 2002: John Paul Miller, gold granulation with vitreous enamels V1 #6 May 2002: Exhibition Notice: The Colour of Fire".
