A variable hand-pressure-activated handle for the AirGravers has been developed, patented and published at the patent and trademark office. The new palm pressure handle for the AirGraver utilizes the pressure exerted by the user's hand on the tool's handle to activate and vary the power of the tool. The controller device is completely contained in the original palm-pushed sized handle. AirGraver owners will be able to replace the existing handle on their AirGraver handpiece and enjoy palm-push powered engraving without a foot pedal. The new device will give users a second way to operate their AirGraver and easily swap between palm-activated power and foot-control power by interchanging the AirGraver handles. The new throttle is hidden inside the handle of the AirGraver and allows control of the impacts by simply using the tool as you would a push graver. The more pressure put on the handle the more power released into impacts. This miniature throttle can be fine-tuned to suit personal preferences e.g. one may desire the tool to activate throughout a power range with very minimal palm pressure or through a harder variable palm pressure. For the engraver who has learned by palm pushing for years, the transition to foot controlled powered gravers has not been a natural one. These highly skilled people, and those just beginning to learn to hand engrave have to coordinate the foot throttle and hand motion when making an engraving cut. It is well known that with foot control powered gravers it is important to only depress the foot control while holding the graver point in the cut. If the pedal is depressed when not held snugly in the cut there is a possibility that the point of the graver will break and the cut will have chatter marks and/or burs. The new hand pressure device provides an engraving tool that is activated by the pressure of the person's palm pushing the tool instead of using a foot control to activate the device. This palm push, variable power graver prevents the tool being operated when not held in a cut and thus helps those learning to engrave to produce cleaner engraving cuts as well as helping the already-skilled traditional palm push engravers make the transition. Jewelers using power gravers for stone setting and bright-cut work will enjoy the ease of use and having one less foot control under their bench. For more information go to Steve's website.
