Orchid is both a reservoir of content and a network of active relationships for the benefit of the gem and jewelry industries. Through Orchid, participants may resolve their questions about virtually any subject relevant to the broad spectrum of involvement surrounding the gem and jewelry industries.

Its stated purpose is "to build a strong pool of information for the benefit of the Web's jewelers and craftsmen and all those interested in jewelry and gemstones."

The Ganoksin project is a 6 year old enterprise which provides free of charge a variety of quality services for the gem and jewelry community, many of which cannot be found anywhere else on the Internet.

The Project is dedicated to serving the information needs of the world's jewelers. It aims to educate, make life easier and improve working conditions for, and facilitate sharing between goldsmiths globally; to improve access to information in order to improve the productivity, safety, skills and education of jewelers, professionals and hobbyists.

To this end the Project maintains a substantial library of articles, publications, reports, and technical data on gem and jewelry related topics, many of which were authored by some of the most esteemed writers in their respective fields.

The site contains a sizable collection of art and jewelry galleries, of interest to casual and professional visitors alike and provides various platforms for the exchange of information and opinion, with contributors from all over the world speaking from a wide range of technical and aesthetic experiences that cover a huge range of topics of interest to the jeweler and the gemologist.
