Portland Art Museum 'The Splendors Of Imperial Japan' June 1 - September 22 2002 An exhibition catalogue is available through the Museum Gift Shop. Featuring art of the Meiji Period from the Khalili Collection this exhibition includes over 400 fabulous objects from the exceptional Meiji Period (1868 to 1912). One of the strongest mediums represented is enamel - this is one of the finest collections of turn-of-the-century Japanese enamels ever seen in a single exhibition. Coral Shaffer, the owner of Enamelworks Supply Co. in Seattle, has visited this exhibition and plans to return. She says "this ... is a must-see for those interested in Japanese enamel work". The exhibition showcases (amongst others) the brilliant enamel works of two of the most renowned and talented Japanese enamelists of the late 1800's and early 1900's; Namikawa Sosuke, known for his Musen enameling (wireless cloisonne), and Namikawa Yasuyuki, known for his great cloisonne enamels. Coral gives this exhibition 5 Stars! ( S.S. Events Ed. : ) |
